Omari Caro, Bradford Bulls - Jun '17

Omari Caro, winger for the Bradford Bulls, came to year 3 to encourage reluctant readers. Omari came to help with reading especially boys who have struggled with their reading.
Some of the boys used to say that reading was not "cool" and was "only for girls" but these attitudes soon changed once they saw the athletic and muscular Omari Caro reading his favourite books.  It was wonderful to see a local sports star taking time out of his busy training schedule to help promote reading skills in school.  The children loved it and it's inspired them to want to read even more at home.  The children showed their appreciation by making Omari cards and pictures.
He's passionate about engaging boys in reading and he's an excellent role model both on and off the pitch.  He has promised to come back to Fearnville to watch our tag rugby tournament at the end of term.  The children loved meeting Omari and he loved reading with the children too.

School Games Baton Relay - May '16

As part of the School Games, a baton has been passed around schools all over Bradford.  Fearnville had the honour of starting it off.  The baton arrived at 7am and Mr Cassidy ran a lap around the school. Before school, the breakfast club had the baton as they started   the day being active and taking part in multisports.

When school started the baton was passed around class by class as it made its way around school spreading the message of school sport and promoting the values.

In class the year 3 Seahorses talked about each of the values and came up with a definition for each. They will track the baton relay online and are going to write a newspaper article

In maths year 3s used the baton relay to solve one and two step word problems.

At break time the children took it in turns to come up with interesting ways to travel across the playground with the baton. The children walked, ran, skipped, hopped, crawled and danced with the baton.  The baton was even thrown a few times.

The baton was safely delivered to the second stop on its journey.

It was covered in the T&A

Bradford City fire 30th anniversary - May '15

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Bradford city fire children from Fearnville had a “claret and amber day”. Children paid 50p to wear Bradford City shirts or colours for the day and raised money for the Bradford plastic surgery and burns unit (PSBRU).

The children and staff were very generous and raised over £200!

During the day children did work based around the fire including poetry, art and creative writing.  All the children researched the tragic events of the day where 56 football supporters died and 265 were injured. It was very meaningful to some children as they had family or close friends who were involved on the day.

Year 4 Dolphins looked closely at the awful events and Kayden made a fantastic A1 sized collage.

It’s great to see children showing so much respect to those who lost their lives 30 years ago.
