Hello and thank you for taking your time to visit. I hope you have had a restful holiday and are looking forward to all the exciting learning we have planned this term.
BRRRRRRRR!!!!! It’s cold so wrap up warm for our topic this term which is ‘Cold as Ice!’
As part of our topic 'Cold as Ice!' we will learn all about what people ate in a castle, what they wore and how they lived. We all also learn about famous people who shaped history in Britain, including St George.
In English, we will be reading and responding to ‘The Snow Queen‘ and the story of ‘Lost and Found.’ We will be looking at story settings and comparing settings in cold climates. We will have the opportunity to plan and write our own stories as well as change the innovate the endings in other famous stories.
In Geography we will learn to name Identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world. We will look in detail at weather patterns in the Arctic and how it compares to the weather in the UK.
As designers we will be creating a winter portrait (landscape) in the style of Van Gogh We will look at creating our own winter art.
As Scientists we will find out about the types of animals that live in the Arctic and how they adapt to living in cold habitats.
We will learn about shape and space and name and describe the features of “d and 3D shapes. We will also learn about adding 1 more, 1 less and ordering numbers by their place value. We want to become super mathematicians so we will continue to solve problems including addition and subtraction using concrete (real) objects and pictorial representations. To help us develop our investigative skills in maths, sometimes we may answer ‘probing’ questions to check our learning and to see if we can explain our answers.
Please take a look at our Topic web for more information.
As we did last term, your child will be bringing home a 'Look, say, cover, write and check spelling sheet every Friday. There are columns in which they can write their words, and they will be tested on these words the following Friday. To help your child further you can help them write the words into a sentence which really helps children to understand how and when to use the words correctly. Please support your child in practicing their spellings and if you have any questions don't hesitate to come and ask any of the Key Stage 1 team
Reading - online books
In addition to the school reading books which children take home, we now also have access to Active Learning which is an online reading resource for you to access at home.
Go to www.activelearn
Your child's username will be their first name with a capital letter and then their password which for Monkeys class is 'Monkeys'.
Reminder - Please ensure you wear BLACK shoes to school. If you wear your wellies to school you need to bring some pumps to change into. Please wear your school uniform every day.
We are always available at the start and end of the school day. Please come and see us if you have any questions or if you just want to say Hello! : )
